Being ill is costly!!!

Have not been blogging for a while.. been busy..
Remember in my previous few posts I mentioned my mum slimmed down? Actually it's not just because she took care of baby George, but actually she has been feeling unwell.. Recently my mum was diagnosed to have a 2cm big tumour in her right thyroid.. They call it a NODULE.
After the initial check, the doc couldn't confirm that it's benign (non-cancerous) as they found the cell to be "a-typical".. In any diagnosis, if the report says "A-TYPICAL", then there is a cause for concern as they are not "normal" cells.
My mum was devastated as she is very afraid of the "C" word, namely CANCER. She thought this will be a big catastrophe for her!
Hence I have been busy fetching her for check ups and gettng her ready for admission to the hospital for an operation to remove the tumour and to check if it's cancerous.
Last Mon (20th Oct) she was warded into Gleneagles and had her operation at 8am. Gosh! We were all there at 6am. She was really scared! During then, she was very receptive to prayers made over her.
I always thought my dad was a very "zai (3)" person.. as he seldom shows his emotions or anxiety openly.
But this time round, he was very quiet thruout the op (I later learnt from mum that whenever he is anxious, he will be SUPER SILIENT)..
The doc came out around 9.15am... (it's like the typical chinese TV drama serial)... I finally experienced how family members feel when their loved ones are inside the op theatre..
THANK GOD!!! It's NOT CANCEROUS!! PHEW!!
THe doc asked us to go for breakfast while he stitched up the wound.. What a relief! And guess what.. my dad started to chat again:))
All things turn out well.. with the gracious help from some friends, my mum was treated very well at the hospital and was discharged the very next day. But this really sets me thinking thru many things..
1) When I was taking care of my mum in the ward that whole week, I suddenly felt that our roles have reversed.. For the last 30 years (oops! you know my age now!), I have always been taken care by her, yes even after being a mum of 2 kids myself!:) She will ask me to drink more water... blah blah blah...the usual...But then this time round, I am the one telling her everything is ok.. scolds her when she starts to think negatively and check her temperature etc... It's a very mixed feeling..2) Being ill is really costly!! Just an operation and a day's stay in hospital costs $10,000!!!And cos my mum had this thyroid problem 10 years ago, she was not or could not be covered under INSURANCE!Morale of the story??PLEASE IF YOU ARE READING THIS, ENSURE YOU YOURSELF AND YOUR LOVED ONES HAVE AT LEAST A SHIELD PLAN TO COVER THE BULK IF NOT ALL OF THE HOSPITALISATION EXPENSES!!! (Any queries do feel free to contact me or email to (fongevelyn@yahoo.com.sg) hee hee hee!!!:))But seriously, I am NOT JOKING! Just an op may wipe up most of your savings. So why bear the risk? Tansfer the risk to insurance companies! (Oops! sounds like a commercial AD!)
3) It's really good to have more kids.. tougher when bringing them up but good when we are older and the kids can take turns to take care of you! This saga caused us to be closer than before and my mum kept saying she is very blessed!!:))) (She said that in the midst of her drowsiness after the op!)But all things work out for those who loves HIM!!:)Thank God for a dear friend Bee Sian who was there to offer mental, emotional and practical support for my mum.. calling every 2-3 days to chat with her. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!And you know what, my dad.. being a typical dad.. went to buy 4-D on the day of my mum's discharge..(bet on her ward no) and won $2,500!! WOW!! (Not that I will follow suit!) But sometimes I can't help but feel that perhaps God uses these systems of the world to encourage even the "GENTILES" like my parents who used up a great portion of their savings!
As a result?? My dad is bringing all of us to a good dinner. To celebrate my mum's close shave too of course!!!:)) Thank you Jesus!:)

Nice Monday!

Recently Ja boy seems to be getting frustrated easily... guess cos me and ck not spending much time with him:(
Hence on Monday, we decided to end our work earlier (anyway I was not feeling well) and we went to fetch him from school (He was overjoyed!!). Then after which we brought him to his favourite Vivo city..
Actually we always do the same thing @ Vivo. I guess it's the time spent together that's more important. It's always dinner @ ck's favourite (jia xiang mian - sarawak noodles) located next to kopitiam, followed by 2 coffee takeaways @ Starbucks and then proceed to the play ground for Ja.
After that we went to his favourite Toys 'r' us to LOOK @ toys (no buying) b4 eating his kids's meal @ BK.
That's all we did and we spent about 4 hours there! BUt it's all worth it cos Ja boy was definitely very happy and satisfied.
Think it's soo important to spend quality time with them. It will raise up confident, happy and secure kids with a good self esteem. All that are needed to give them a good headstart to life!!:)
See how happy he was!!!:))
Of course, we told him poor Jewjew waiting for him at home so he eagerly went home to play with his meimei and posed for pictures with her!

(Mmmm... so satisified:)
Talking about Jewjew, really thank God we have a good maid to take care of the 2 kids, cook for them, bathe them send Ja to school, run errands for us.etc etc.
Of course if you asked me is she perfect? OF course not!!! I can always list down 101 things that I can point out to her. But yet again, I always ask myself: "Will I be able to live up to my own expectations and getting paid for just $350 a month??!!" That thought alone brings more grace and compassion to my heart.
Just last Sun, one mother in nursery commented that she doesn't like the look of my maid, saying that she feels my maid, Jona doesn't love Jewjew. I asked her why and she said cos Jona is always asking Jew to sleep sleep sleep! Oh gosh! I 'm like "DUH!!!" Cos if Jew doesn't sleep then she will be cranky after svc and we normally need to stay longer in church.. in fact, it was I who wants Jew to rest more!
Anyway, that lady mentioned that my maid has got a BF and so on... Well, if she doesn't bring these stuff back to my house.. who am I to interfere and decide for her life? For $350???!
We don't even do that for our church members let alone a maid!
Come on, as long as your helper fulfils what you expect and doesn't cross any boundaries, don pick on them! remember it's only $350, not $350,000!!!
(anyway... this mum just recently changed her maid....mmmm?
Like what ck's aunt always said, "Respect them and they will respect you! Treat them as your family and they will do likewise in return."
(ps) anyway the best way to see if your mail ill treats your children is to see how they respond to her.....

Last weekend was busy.. Maid went for her off and we had Baby George's Baby shower!!

George drinks 80 ml every 1 to 1.5 hr!!! Gosh! My mum and Sis are overwhelmed with tiredness.. Heard that his drinking patterns are inherited from Yohandi.. He was like that too as a baby! Wow! Made in Jakarta.. that's why! My mum has slimmed down so much witin that one month! Wow it's better than going to the gym:)
No matter what, It's nothing compared to the joy of being a mother!! I am sure All mothers will agree with me! So for my dear sis.. remember this: It's all worth it!! Hold on there!!
And for my cute little nephew: Be a good boy ok! Dun bully your mummie and popo!:))
